So I've been pretty slack about updates here over the last few months... I've been to both Croatia and Dublin, and done a whole bunch of things in the UK since I last posted anything...In an attempt to remedy that, I've just uploaded 40 images from Croatia... I'm working on the rest of them, and have images fro Dublin, and aro ...more...

Well actually so far we've not been that active, but have been having fun none the less...
Sunday Started the day off well with a buffet breakfast at Koto which is a 'training centre' for street kids from Hanoi... essentially this is where Jamie Oliver got his idea from... Koto was set up about 8 years ago and has been providing training to about ...more...

Okay, so here's the long awaited run down on the second week of my trip in Thailand. It's being written from a tiny internet cafe in Sapa, which is in the Northern highlands of Vietnam... I'm also trying to upload the last of my Thailand photos, but they're going pretty slowly...!!! (excuse the spelling mistakes and typos... word's not on this mach ...more...

Finding both time and internet access over the last few days has proved to be rather tricky, so things have rather got behind on the diary and photo front... I've got photos uploading now, and will try and bring things up to date since the trek, but expect it to be brief...!!

Just a quick, out-of-sequence message to say that I'm in Kanchanaburi, on the River Kwai, and going up to Hellfire pass tomorrow morning for the ANZAC dawn service...
Then we're off on the river on a raft for the next two days, so I'll fill you in on all the details of the last few days once I'm back in Bangkok on Friday... ...more...

Day one – homestay to Lisu village
Great breakfast then into 'farm trucks' for the ride to the end of the track
Finally on our way, today is supposed to be the hardest day, with lots of climbing to be done.
Very good track, initially through mostly cleared farm land, then into jungle, very picturesque
Many stops along the way, then ...more...

Up and away by 8 to catch the local bus up to Chaing Rai, made good time, then out to PDA (can't remember what it's an acronym for, but local community development agency and trek operator) and lunch at Cabbages and Condoms, a strange sounding restaurant which is part of a PDA project from years back to try and reduce the birth and HIV infection ra ...more...

I finally managed to get to a cooking course in this part of the world, having failed once in Cambodia and twice in Laos, and it was great... just Khilna, Kaye and myself...
Picked up from our hotel, and off to the market to purchase supplies
Out to the school, very flash, in very nice surroundings
Pad Thai first, and we were eating by 10:30 ...more...

Off to the railway station at 3, weaving our way through the back alleys to try and stay dry and clean and get to a location that our driver could actually reach. In the end the plastic bags over our packs weren't necessary as things were relatively quiet on the streets.
Got to the station in plenty of time, and kept getting told off by the secu ...more...

Our train was almost an hour late getting in to Bangkok, but then that was hardly a surprise ;-)Rosemary had been hanging out for baked beans, so a quick stop at the hotel to drop our bags off, and we were off to the cafe that she knew which could solve this issue for her...The last four days have been spent seeing some of the sights of Bangkok and ...more...
